UK PhD Research Assistant Position Available - Summer 2009
The Geotechnical Engineering Group at the University of Kentucky currently has multiple
research assistantship (RA) positions available for students interested in pursuing the Ph.D. in
areas pertaining to resilient infrastructure. Particular emphasis is on dams, levees, and dikes.
Research areas of interest include: testing and evaluation of the dynamic behavior of soil and
concrete; fluid-structure-soil interaction; high-performance computing in infrastructure
modeling; blast response of civil infrastructure; and sensor technology applied to civil
infrastructure. These research assistantships pay FULL TUITION, FEES, AND A
COMPETITIVE STIPEND. Applicants are required to be U.S. Citizens and Permanent
Residents. For additional information about these research assistantship positions or the

On Wednesday the House License & Occupation Committee approved (passed), by
unanimous vote, HB-46 (Continuing Education for Engineers). Please thank those committee
members for their support.
The next steps for HB-46 are: the Rules Committee will determine when the entire House will
vote on the bill; there will then be a “floor vote” (all Representatives vote) --- then we follow
the same process in the Senate.
This coming week is crucial --- PLEASE CONTACT your Representative before Monday with
the request that they vote FOR HB-46 --- WITHOUT any amendments. If they are supportive
you should also ask if they would consider being a “co-sponsor” of the bill.
ALSO --- please contact the members of the Rules committee and encourage them to post the
bill for a vote in the House as soon as possible.
